The Methane Emissions from the LNG Lifecycle
We are facing a methane emergency. Reducing methane emissions is our best chance to limit global warming before 2050. This is why reducing methane emissions is known as the "emergency brake" we can pull to limit climate damage.
The science shows that the emissions from imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) are worse than the emissions from coal due to all of the associated methane emissions. LNG is liquefied methane. The reason that LNG has such high associated methane emissions is due to all of the "upstream" emissions that come from the production and transportation of the methane gas. This video uses optical gas imaging technology to make the invisible methane emissions visible.
