As featured in this new article from Gas Outlook, Sharon Wilson of Oilfield Witness has documented large amounts of pollution from the natural gas (methane)-powered turbines in place at the xAI’s Colossus datacenter in Memphis. Sharon Wilson is a certified thermographer who uses optical gas imaging technology to make visible the invisible emissions from oil and gas production and combustion.

Sharon is available for interviews about the high level of emissions she identified using an optical gas imaging camera on May 13th, 2025 at Elon Musk’s Memphis-based Colossus AI datacenter.

“Clean natural gas is a scam. I have documented serious, unsustainable pollution from natural gas turbines in the U.S., all over the U.K. and in Japan. They all emit serious pollution that is completely invisible to the human eye,” said Sharon Wilson, director of Oilfield Witness “The science is clear. We must stop burning fossil fuels. No one needs AI to figure that out.”

According to multiple media reports, xAI set up the turbines with no permits. xAI has claimed that they have plans to add emissions control technology that will make it “lowest-emitting facility in the country” but the video from Oilfield Witness shows the turbines are creating significant emissions.
