One of the U.S.’s largest LNG terminals, Freeport LNG is currently applying to renew and amend its Title V Air Permits. The permits that were supposedly rigorously reviewed by regulators were riddled with errors. They included incorrect coordinates for the Freeport LNG facilities, and one of them has sections that state “Error! Reference source not found”. In response to technical comments from Oilfield Witness and Better Brazoria, regulators will be hosting public hearings in September to receive comments on the permits.
In anticipation of the hearing, Oilfield Witness is sharing the findings of our deep-dive into Freeport LNG’s compliance practices. Earlier this year, Oilfield Witness spent a month in Freeport, documenting large emissions on a regular basis. The team combined that fieldwork with analysis of thousands of pages of state compliance documents on the facility. We plan to release our full report soon, but in the meantime, here are the highlights:

Since Freeport LNG’s terminal is technically two facilities, the permit hearings are split over two days. The first is September 15th, 2026 at 7:00 PM at the Lake Jackson Civic Center. The second is on September 22nd, 2026 and is also at 7:00 PM at the Lake Jackson Civic Center. Oilfield Witness plans to be there to share our findings and present our technical comments on the permits. We hope that others will be able to attend.
